Drawing a Goldfish Step by Step
This step by step tutorial shows how to draw a goldfish. It includes beginner friendly illustrated drawing examples and instructions for each step.
This is a fairly simple tutorial but the goldfish is drawn with a little bit more detail then some of the other animals here on EasyLineDrawing. If you find these too difficult you can simplify the drawing be leaving out some of the details of the finds and scales.
It's recommended that you use a pencil for the first four steps of this tutorial. Also be sure to draw light lines that you can easily erase if you make a mistake.
Step 1 – Draw the Tail & Body of the Goldfish
Start the drawing by outlining the shape of the goldfishes body and tail. Draw the body wider towards the middle and narrower towards the head and tail. Draw the tail curving backwards with a sort of split in the middle. Finally add a little curve to separate the tail from the body.
Step 2 – Draw the Fins
Draw the fins with the largest one at the top. It should be taller towards the front of the head and lower towards the tail. Afterwards add two more fins with one near the tail and one near the middle of the body. Finally add the last and smallest fin near the head. Erase the part of the body that's overlapped by the small fin when you are done.
Step 3 – Draw the Head & Mouth
Add a curved line towards the back of the fishes head and another curved line near its tip at the front for the mouth.
Step 4 – Draw the Eye
Make the eye round with another smaller round shape inside it for the iris. Also inside the eye add a small oval shape for the highlights.
Step 5 – Draw the Scales & Fin Details
If you find this part too difficult you can simply stop at the line drawing from the previous step and go over that with either darker pencil lines, pen or marker. Also fill in the iris with black or shade it with a pencil. If you want to continue then do all of that at the end of this step.
Add some scales to the goldfish by randomly drawing a few curves and sets of cures through its body. Afterwards draw some lines along the fins and tail that sort of curve along their shapes. These are actually the fishes bones showing through those.
Step 6 – Color the Goldfish
To color the goldfish use either paints or colored pencils. You can can make most of its body orange but add a gradient near the tips of the fins and tail that transitions to white (you can simply use the white of the paper). You can also do the same near its belly.
Add another gradients, this time red to its back getting lighter as it goes down. You can also add a tiny gradient round the eye going from orange to yellow.
